Freelance / part-time developer: Drupal and other open source, Perth or Malaysia or other

ThinkLeft (http://thinkleft.com.au), an IT services and Drupal development consultancy based in Perth, Australia, is interested in expanding its operations by outsourcing software development activities and, eventually, adding staff.

We are looking for a freelance or part-time developer who meets the following criteria:

Required:
Familiar with open source and open source software development.
Strong technical skills and background.
Good communication skills. Good written and verbal english.
Conducts himself or herself in a professional manner.
Ability to work with minimal supervision.

Desirable:
Drupal development
Python
Ability to write clear and unambiguous technical english.

Preferred:
Linux development & server administration
Based in Perth, Australia, or in peninsular Malaysia (but anywhere can apply)

Telecommute/Telework: Yes

Initially, we are looking at 0.5 part time (or equivalent) for a trial contract period of 1-3 months.

(Outsourcing companies: please do not respond to this notice. We seek to engage directly with the person who will be doing the actual work.)

The arrangement will be on an hourly basis, payable fortnightly. (You need not bear the consequences of requirements creep or project overruns.)

Most of the work will be Drupal development, covering such aspects as custom modules, site building and administration, themeing etc. There may occasionally be other open source non-Drupal work.

ThinkLeft focuses on quality software and maintainability. Often, our clients come to us after engaging low cost providers elsewhere and getting disappointing results. Hence, we tend to tackle the more difficult, challenging, and interesting tasks.

We believe in writing code properly and doing things the right way. You will develop software according to Drupal conventions, following the Drupal way, and most importantly, you will be given the time, latitude and guidance (if necessary) to do so. If you want to work with people who appreciate robust, good quality code, this is it.

We will consider developers who are strong at software development but new to Drupal. If you've been wanting to switch to Drupal, this is a good chance to do so.

If you are interested in this opportunity, please send us your details using the contact form at http://thinkleft.com.au/contact. Please include:

o A few samples of code that you have written in the past,
o A few samples of past projects (optional), and
o Compensation expectations, preferably as an hourly rate.

Any contributions to established open source projects will be highly regarded.

(You cannot send attachments through the contact form, so please upload them, if any, to a website somewhere and inform us of the link.)

Finally, in case of a large volume of applications, we will not be able to reply to every single submission. If you do not hear from us, you did not make our shortlist.

Thank you.
